Embracing the unexpected

I always tell people that l don’t have life all figured out. That it’s only been through grace, consistent effort and a dash of luck to get to where l am today, because life is a series of transitions. It’s not something that you can figure out, it’s a complex beast with intricate workings that are constantly changing.

Of course, there is a belief that we all have the ability to control things that happen in our lives and to create a life we want for ourselves. That if you plan, strategize and have smart goals things will always flow. But if you ask me, sometimes we can’t control what happens in our lives because life is a continuous mystery that is constantly evolving and we have no choice other than to persistently explore it.

The thing is, you can’t have life figured out, people leave, employment contracts can be terminated, businesses make loses and sometimes we even lose our loved ones. Our experiences of loss and disappointments may leave us feeling guilty, angry and even confused. Whether our choices have closed some doors that will never reopen or, through no fault of our own, tragedy has invaded our lives and have become part and parcel of it.

If you ask me, life is not perfect, never perfect. It has a ripping effect to those who won’t let go and flexing is the key. Even a roller coaster ride can be fun if you know when to lean and create new balance within the change. The truth is, life is ironic. It takes sadness to know happiness, noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence. Life is full of ups and downs and without the downs, the ups would mean nothing.

People always tell me ‘wow Percy l wish l was as strong and happy as you are’. But the truth is, we all have happy and sad days and the older l am getting, the wiser and more patient l am becoming. One thing l do know now is, nothing lasts forever, good or bad, so live in the moment. Remember that the beautiful butterfly was once a cocoon. There’s hope as long as there’s life. When you are at the top of the world stay humble, when  you hit a low stay hopeful.

Live in the moment!!!
